CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia men's soccer team scored a 1-0 win over North Carolina on Sunday at Ukrop Park in Richmond, Va. Rising sophomore Nicko Corriveau (Potomac, Md.) scored a second-half goal off a Riggs Lennon (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) assist for the match's lone tally.

"It was a good result for us," Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch said. "All of the opportunities that we had were a result of the type of chances that we created. We're clearly seeing progress in the amount of chances created. We used several subs as well and are seeing a lot of development in our depth. That's another great positive that came out of this game."

Both sides welcome back nearly their full teams from the 2013 season. While possession was fairly even, the Cavaliers had the better of the offensive chances.

Virginia used five substitutions in the game as it continues to build its depth. The Cavaliers played two goalkeepers, Calle Brown and freshman Jeff Caldwell.

Virginia continues its spring exhibition schedule on Saturday (April 5) with a match against the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.
