Oregon State Release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Associate Head Coach Terry Boss has been named the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Oregon State University. Boss has been part of the Virginia coaching staff since the 2014 season.
Boss grew up just five miles from Oregon State’s campus in Philomath and served as an assistant for the Beavers during the 2013 season. Boss concluded his professional soccer career in the Pacific Northwest with a three-year stint with the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer (MLS).
“This is bittersweet for us as a program,” said head coach George Gelnovatch. “Terry has played a pivotal role in the success we’ve had in the recent years, that includes a national championship in 2014. He’s was vital in our recruiting, tactical preparation and the development of our keepers, he’ll be missed. On the other hand, this is a tremendous opportunity not only return home but to be a member of a quality athletic program, I’m very happy for him.”
In his first year, Virginia won its seventh national championship defeating UCLA in a penalty kick shootout. Boss was promoted to Associate Head Coach after the 2015 season increasing his role in almost every aspect of the program including recruiting and team development.
Boss mentored Cavalier goalkeepers Jeff Caldwell and Calle Brown during his tenure in Charlottesville. Brown was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the 2014 College Cup and Caldwell became the first UVA goalkeeper to earn All-ACC honors in three-consecutive seasons. Caldwell ranks in the top-10 in every statistical category at UVA.
Virginia will begin a national search for his replacement immediately.
Blount Eager to Assume Larger RoleFootball3/21/18The job will not be handed to rising sophomore Joey Blount. He'll have to earn it. This is head coach Bronco Mendenhall's program, after all. But after spending the 2017 season as free safety Quin Blanding's understudy, Blount is the leading candidate to take over in the secondary for the University of Virginia's all-time leading tackler.'Hoos Exit With Heads Held HighWomen's Basketball3/19/18In its first trip to the NCAA tourney since 2010, 10th-seeded Virginia went 1-1 in Columbia, S.C., defeating seventh-seeded Cal and losing to second-seeded South Carolina.'Hoos Look To Take Next Step in NCAA TourneyWomen's Basketball3/18/18A win Sunday night over second-seeded South Carolina would send 10th-seeded Virginia to the NCAA tournament's Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2000.
