WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Cavaliers began play at the Wake Forest Invitational, competing in opening round singles and doubles matches on Friday (Nov. 6) in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Because of rain in the area, many of the matches had to be moved indoors, backing up the schedule of play and delaying many matches.

Sophomore Alexander Ritschard (Zurich, Switzerland) , the top seed in the A2 Singles bracket, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Adam Moundir of Old Dominion and moved into the semis with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Georgia State's Jannis Koeke.

Senior Jonathan Cornish (London, England) advanced to the quarters of B1 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win over Georgia State's Jack MacFarlane and then moved into the semis with a 6-4, 6-2 victory of Duke's Dan McCall.

Redshirt junior Harrison Richmond (Pawley's Island, S.C.) moved into the quarters of the B2 singles bracket by battling to a three-set victory over Georgia State's Sebastian Acuna, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 before falling 7-6 (5), 6-2 to Alexander Kokorev of Wisconsin. Sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) withdrew from the tournament due to illness.

Richmond and Cornish, the No. 2 seed in the A2 Doubles bracket, fell into the consolation bracket with an 8-4 opening-round loss to Kentucky's Nils Ellefsen and Kevin Lai.

The tournament runs through Sunday with the matches being played at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
