Huntley Montgomery Advances at National Clay Courts
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Freshman Huntley Montgomery was the lone Cavalier to advance from the pre-qualifying stage into the qualifying round at the ITA National Clay Court tournament at the Suburban Club in Baltimore, Md., this weekend.
Montgomery, from Chapel Hill, N.C., defeated Matt Walker of Middle Tennessee State 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 this afternoon to advance.
Montgomery was busy today as he teamed with fellow freshman Brian Vahaly to advance in doubles. They defeated Mark Pellerin and Marshall Brown of Middle Tennessee State 8-5 to continue into the qualifying round.
Bear Schofield received a bye and joins Montgomery into the qualifying round that begins on Tuesday. Vahaly advanced into the main draw beginning on Thursday.
In the doubles compeitition, Schofield and Justin Smith join Montgomery and Vahaly. The qualifying round of doubles begins on Tuesday.
