CHARLOTTESVILLE The top ranked Virginia men’s tennis team returns home Friday night as it hosts intrastate rival VCU. Match time at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club is 6 p.m. and admission is free.

The Cavaliers remained atop the ITA rankings this week, garnering all 10 first place votes. Virginia is 3-0 this season, including wins at No. 8 Illinois and No. 12 Notre Dame last week. Three Cavaliers are ranked in the top 12 of the ITA singles rankings, with Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) at No. 1, Dominic Inglot (London, England) at No. 3, and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) at No. 12. Virginia also boasts five ranked doubles teams, highlighted by the No. 1 ranked duo of Devvarman and Huey.

VCU enters the match with a 4-0 record and a No. 32 national ranking. The Rams are led by Damien Lacombe, who is ranked No. 33 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings. Lacombe is 11-2 this season, but both of his losses have come to Cavaliers, falling to Devvarman at the UVa Fall Invitational and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) at the ITA Mideast Regional.

Virginia has defeated VCU in each of the past two seasons, both by 4-3 scores. Last year the Cavaliers picked up the win in Richmond and in 2006 Virginia defeated the Rams in the inaugural match at the Boyd Tinsley Courts.

Following Friday’s match, the Cavaliers will hit the road for a Sunday match at No. 21 Michigan. The Wolverines are 2-0 this season and host No. 16 Pepperdine on Friday.
