TIJUANA, Mexico - Former Virginia men's tennis player Ted Angelinos (Class of 2008) won his eighth career professional doubles title last week at the Futures Tour event in Tijuana, Mexico. Angelinos teamed with former Florida standout Antoine Benneteau to win the title without dropping a set in four matches.
Angelinos, who moved up to a career-high No. 531 in the ATP doubles rankings this week, was seeded second in the event with Benneteau and downed top-seeded Adam El Mihdawy and Chris Letcher in the final. In the semifinals, they scored a win over another former UVa standout, Michael Shabaz (Class of 2011), who was teaming with Amrit Narasimhan.
Also last week Treat Huey (Class of 2008) helped the Philippines to a 3-2 win over Syria in the first round of Davis Cup play in the Asia/Oceania Group II.
Five former Cavaliers will be in action this week, including three on the ATP Tour. Huey and Dominic Inglot (Class of 2009) are the No. 3 seed in the doubles draw of the ATP 250 Open Sud de France in Montpelier. Somdev Devvarman (Class of 2008) is playing the ATP 250 PBZ Zagreb Indoors. Angelinos and Shabaz will be playing this week's Futures Tour event in Mexico City.
