CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia men's tennis seniors J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) competed at the first ITA national event of the 2016-17 season as the International Tennis Hall of Fame hosted the inaugural Hall of Fame/ITA Grass Court Invitational September 16-18 in Newport, Rhode Island.

Players from eight of the top Division I programs (four men's teams, four women's teams) competed in a flighted singles and doubles round-robin tournament on the historic Bill Talbert Stadium Court and the additional grass courts at the Hall of Fame.

Both Aragone and Corinteli finished the tournament 2-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.

On Friday, Aragone earned a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Michigan's Alex Knight while Corinteli won 6-4, 6-2 over TCU's Trevor Johnson. The duo earned an 8-5 victory over Princeton's Luke Gamble and Alex Day.

In Saturday's action, the Cavaliers played a pair of Horned Frogs in singles and doubles. Corinteli downed TCU's Alex Day, 6-4, 6-2 while Aragone won his first set 6-4 over Jerry Lopez, but dropped the second set 6-4. The two battled through a tiebreaker with Lopez coming out ahead 10-8 to win the match. In doubles, the tandem fell 8-7 to Johnson and Reese Stadler.

In the final matches on Sunday, Aragone downed Princeton's Tom Colautti, 6-3, 6-4, while Corinteli fell 6-1, 6-3 to Michigan's Myles Schalet.

Established in 1954, the International Tennis Hall of Fame is a non-profit institution that preserves and promotes the history of tennis and celebrates its champions, thereby serving as a vital partner in the growth of tennis globally. The Hall of Fame is located in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, on a seven-acre property that features an extensive museum that showcases the history of the sport and honors the 247 Hall of Famers, 13 grass tennis courts and an indoor tennis facility and a rare Court Tennis facility.
