HOUSTON, Texas - Virginia men's tennis sophomore Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) competed at the Texas Tamale Company Houston Cup, a Futures Tournament being held in Houston, Texas from October 9-15.

Söderlund, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kevin Zhu in the first round. Söderlund faced former Cavalier Thai-Son Kwiatkowski in the second round, falling 6-0, 6-4.

Kwiatkowski opened the tournament with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Aron Hiltzik. He will face 3-seed Christopher Eubanks of Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals.

Söderlund has a current ATP ranking of No. 662. He reached a career high of No. 387 in May of this year. He has won two Futures tournaments, winning a title in Sweden in 2016 and Norway in 2015.
