Virginia Wrestling Named to Top-25 Academic Teams Poll

Feldman Named Second Team Academic All-American

Charlottesville, Va. -- The Virginia wrestling team, which garnered votes in the final coaches' poll, was named to the Top-25 Academic Poll by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association based on the team's academic performance for the 1996-97 scholastic year. The team's GPA of 2.9283 was 13th among schools sponsoring varsity wrestling. Princeton topped the poll with a GPA of 3.2580.

The Cavaliers concluded their season with an eight-match win streak, the longest in 13 years, en route to a final dual-match record of 11-5 and a runner-up spot at the 1997 ACC Championships.

Senior co-captain Zach Feldman (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody), an NCAA qualifier for the Cavaliers, was named to the Second Team Academic All-American squad. Feldman, who had a 4.0 GPA, was the runner-up at the 1997 ACC Championships in the heavyweight division.
