Nine Virginia wrestlers competed in the NCAA Championships Thursday (March 21).

2012 NCAA Qualifier - 165 pounds

AT VIRGINIA: 2011-12
• Went 27-9 on the season
• Earned automatic berth in NCAA Championships with third-place finish at 2012 ACC Championships
• Posted 2-2 record at NCAAs, with wins over No. 10 seed Cody Yohn of Minnesota and Coleman Gracey of Army; both losses came to eventual All-Americans - Josh Asper of Maryland (6-4) and Ben Jordan of Wisconsin (3-2)
• Defeated Yohn in a 3-2 tiebreaker to advance at NCAAs
• Also earned a 10-9 win over Coleman Gracey of Army in wrestlebacks at NCAAs
• Wrestled 15 times against 2012 NCAA qualifiers, posting a 5-9 record (representing all of his losses on the season)
• Ranked No. 15 in final Amateur Wrestling News poll and 16th in final InterMat and WIN rankings
• Ranked No. 17 in final NCAA RPI and 18th in NCAA Coaches rankings
• Went 3-2 in ACC action, with losses coming to then-No. 14 Pete Yates of Virginia Tech (6-2) and then-No. 2 Josh Asper of Maryland (4-3)
• All three ACC wins came via major decisions: NC State's Nigel Jones (12-4), Duke's Ryan Harding (15-4), UNC's Kyle Kiss (10-1)
• Earned two wins over ranked opponents during regular season: major decision over then-No. 12 Zach Toal of Missouri, 5-2 decision over then-No. 13 Scott Winston of Rutgers
• All of his defeats were close; his largest margin of defeat was a four-point decision (twice) and eight of his losses came by two or fewer points
• Led team with 11 major decisions
• Won the NC State Open at 165 pounds (11/13)
• Took third at Body Bar Invitational (11/19)
• Placed fifth at Southern Scuffle, with major over Toal in fifth-place bout (1/1-2)

2010-11
• Redshirt season
• Posted strong 24-5 record in open competitions
• Placed in top three of five open tournaments, winning championships in four
• Won Wolfpack (11/14), Mat Town (11/27), Cleveland State (12/11) and Clarion (2/19) opens
• Took third place in EMU Open to start season (11/6)
• Recorded nine major decisions (second most on team), one tech fall and one pin
• Advanced to World Team Trials (freestyle) after taking second place at 74 KG/163 pounds at FILA Junior World Team Trials (5/21)
• Earned Freestyle All-America honors after third-place finish at FILA Nationals (4/10)

ST. EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL
• Ohio State Champion at 160 pounds in 2010
• 2010 Ironman Champion (second in 2009)
• NHSCA Freshman, Junior and Senior National Champion
• Named Most Outstanding Wrestler at 2010 state tournament and state dual tournament
• Went 40-0 his senior season
• Four-time state placewinner - previous finishes were second (112), third (130) and second (152)
• Finished with 138-16 career record
• Was ranked No. 3 nationally at 160 pounds and No. 13 overall as senior
• Named Cleveland Plain Dealer Wrestler of the Year in 2010
• Two-time Junior Freestyle All-American (second in 2010, fifth in 2009)

• Parents are Keith and Susan Sulzer
• Has two brothers, Keith and Aaron
• Keith wrestled at Northwestern, while Aaron wrestles at Eastern Michigan
