HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Virginia wrestling team dropped a 25-9 decision to the North Carolina Tar Heels in a non-conference dual match as part of the 25th Annual Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum. The Cavaliers won three of ten bouts against the Tar Heels with Paul Bjorlo (157), Will Durkee (165) and Rocco Caponi (174) picking up wins for Virginia.

North Carolina won the first four matches of the dual at 125, 133, 141 and 149-pounds to take an early 15-0 lead before UVa reeled off three consecutive wins at 157, 165 and 174-pounds to pull within 15-9 of the Tar Heels with three matches to go. However, UNC won the last three bouts and turned its six-point lead into a 16-point victory at 25-9.

The loss was UVa's second of the day. The Cavaliers also suffered an 18-15 setback to the Ohio Bobcats in their first match of the event. Virginia's loss to UNC gave UVa an 0-2 record in the 25th Annual Virginia Duals.

With the loss, Virginia's record falls to 3-4 overall. The win improved North Carolina's record to 2-1 on the year.

The Cavaliers will now face North Dakota State at 5:00 PM in their next match at the 25th Annual Virginia Duals.

UVa is one of 16 schools competing in the National College Tournament at the 25th Annual Virginia Duals. The tournament field consists of: American, Cal-State Bakersfield, #19 Edinboro, Indiana, Lock Haven, Old Dominion, North Dakota State, Rider, The Citadel, Buffalo, #12 Missouri, #6 Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Virginia.
