LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Eleven members of the University of Virginia wrestling team competed in the 2003 Mat Town USA Invitational at Lock Haven University. UVa finished in eighth place (62 points) out of the 11 teams that competed in the tournament and had four wrestlers finish in the top eight spots of their respective weight classes. Virginia's 141-pounder Scott Moore took first place at 141-pounds and Tim Foley placed second at 165-pounds. The Cavaliers' Paul Bjorlo placed sixth at 157-pounds and Ryan Stewart took eighth at 125-pounds to highlight UVa's individual finishes.

Virginia's Moore improved his record this season to 14-0 following his 4-0 run in the Mat Town USA Invite. He won one of his four bouts by fall giving him 10 falls for the season, which is just one fall shy of tying the school record at UVa. The Cavaliers' Foley won three consecutive bouts, including his first two by fall, to finish 3-0 at 165 before having to pull out of competition due to a medical issue. Bjorlo went 3-3 at 157 and won three consecutive matches in the wrestle-back bracket after dropping his first match to place sixth in his weight class. Stewart posted two wins (2-3) en route to his eighth place finish at 125.

The trio of Michael Grogan, Scott Smith and Andrew Leffler each recorded a win in their respective weigh classes. Grogan went 1-2 at 174, Smith finished 1-2 at 197 and Leffler went 1-2 in the heavyweight class.

Four other Cavaliers competed in the event but did not record a victory. Joey Carpenter went 0-2 at 141, Paul Bowman finished 0-2 at 149, Drew Michelotti went 0-2 at 165 and Conor Gentil finished 0-2 at 174.

Virginia will return to tournament action on Friday, December 19th when the Cavaliers travel to Newark, Delaware to compete in the Beast of the East Invitational.
