Cavaliers Place High at Carolina Open

Garland, Fenstermaker Advance to Finals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Virginia's Steve Garland (Middletown, NY/Middletown) and Craig Fenstermaker (Hilton Head, SC/Northampton) both advanced to the finals of the Carolina Open this weekend in the 126 and 190 pound classes, respectively.

Garland sailed through the top half of the draw and met Carolina's C. C. Fisher in the finals. Garland fell to Fisher 8-6 in overtime.

Fenstermaker also advanced to the finals to meet a wrestler from Carolina, and he also lost as he was pinned by Scott Stay in the third period.

Jeremy Wilkins (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) also competed for Virginia. Wilkins lost in the consolation round of the heavyweight class.

The Cavaliers return to action on Thursday, December 4, as they host the Keydets from VMI. The match against the Keydets is slated to begin at 7:30 pm.
