Cavaliers Lead after First Day of State Meet

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Virginia Cavaliers lead the state wrestling finals after the first day of competition in Harrisonburg, VA. Steve Garland (118), Matt Roth (126), P. J. Bory (134), Jason Mutarelli (134), John Pozniak (142), Jim Harshaw (150), Alex Leykikh (158), Scott Reese (177), Tom Shaw (177), Martius Harding (190), and Jason Majestic (HWT) all advanced through the quartergfinals to the final day's action.

Reese upset the top seed Brian Sholders from George Mason and Roth, Harshaw, and Jon Frent all recorded pins for the Cavaliers as did Jason Majestic. The Cavaliers are the defending state champions and Martius Harding and Jim Harshaw are the defending champions at 190 and 150 respectively.

Competition continues tomorrow at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
