Cavaliers Open Competition At Virginia Duals On Friday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia (2-3) wrestling team returns to the mat this weekend at the Virginia Duals with a pair of match-ups against Iowa State and No. 10 Arizona State on Friday morning at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va.

Virginia will face Iowa State (1-4) at 9 a.m. before wrestling No. 10 Arizona State (3-2) at 11 a.m. The teams are competing in the James River Pool of the event. Competition will continue later Friday afternoon and Saturday with matchups determined by Friday morning results.

Fans who can’t make the trip to the Hampton Coliseum for the event have several options for keeping up with the action. A live video stream and live stats will be provided through TrackWrestling.com. CAVALIERS IN THE RANKINGS
The Cavaliers have a pair of wrestlers in the national rankings heading into the Virginia Duals according to InterMat Wrestling. Redshirt freshman Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.) is ranked No. 13 at 125 pounds, while sophomore and returning All-American Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas) is No. 3 at 133 pounds.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE HOOS
Virginia is coming off a solid performance at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga where the Cavaliers finished seventh in the overall standings and had three place-winners, including the 133-pound champion in Mueller. Hayes and Krivus also placed with Hayes taking third at 125 pounds and Krivus taking fourth at 149 pounds. In all, five Cavaliers advanced to the second day of competition with Aiello and Schany wrestling into the second day of action.

UP NEXT FOR VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers will return to action next weekend with the start of ACC competition. Virginia will host No. 24 North Carolina at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym. Admission is free to the public.
