Session V
No. 12 seed Jedd Moore (157) and No. 8 seed Nick Sulzer (165) wrapped up their All-America seasons today in Des Moines.
Moore lost his first match today to No. 6 seed Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State, 12-2, as Dieringer scored big points in the second period in his forte, the top position. Moore will wrestle 10th-seeded Roger Pena of Oregon State later today in the fifth-place bout.
He then lost 10-2 to 10th-seeded Roger Pena of Oregon State in the fifth-place bout as he secured sixth place at the championships.
Sulzer wrestled in a nail-biter against 11th-seeded Cody Yohn of Minnesota in the seventh-place match and went to a tiebreaker before Yohn earned the 8-5 win. With two years of eligibility remaining, Sulzer notched eighth place at the championships.

SESSION IV
A pair of Cavaliers earned All-America honors, as Jedd Moore (157) and Nick Sulzer (165) each advanced to the All-America round. Moore dramatically took down Virginia Tech's Jesse Dong and put him on his back for two nearfall points in overtime in a 7-3 win to clinch All-America honors. It marked Moore's first-ever win over the Hokie. He then pinned No. 4 seed James Green of Nebraska and will wrestle Oklahoma State's Alex Dieringer Saturday morning.
Sulzer downed Oklahoma's Patrick Graham to clinch All-America honors. He later fell to Iowa State's Michael Moreno, 4-2, and will compete in the seventh-place bout Saturday.
Matt Snyder (125) and George DiCamillo (133) each were eliminated in the round of 12, falling one win shy of All-America status.
SESSION III
Virginia's three quarterfinalists all dropped their matches this morning and fell into the consolation bracket. Matt Snyder (125), Jedd Moore (157) and Nick Sulzer (165) all will wrestle this evening as they attempt to clinch All-America status.
George DiCamillo (133) won both of his wrestleback matches in the first session and also will compete in the round of 12 this evening.
Virginia stands 28th with 11 team points following the third session. Session IV begins at 7 p.m. ET.
SESSION II
Virginia has advanced three wrestlers to the quarterfinal round.
No. 8 seed Matt Snyder won convincingly over No. 9 seed Trent Sprenkle of North Dakota State, 10-6, at 125 pounds to claim a spot in the quarters.
No. 8 seed Nick Sulzer went to overtime for the second straight match and picked up a 3-1 win over No. 9 seed Josh Veltre of Bloomsburg in the first tiebreaker period. Sulzer reversed Veltre during the rideout and maintained the advantage the rest of the tiebreaker to seal the win.
Virginia's big upset of the day came at 157, where 12th-seeded Jedd Moore scored a reversal and two-point near fall in the third period to earn a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded James Fleming of Clarion.
SESSION I RECAP
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Virginia wrestling team opened competition at the 2013 NCAA Championships Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. The Cavaliers are tied for 16th in the team standings with five points following the first session. The second session begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Five Cavaliers won their opening-round matches in the first session. Matt Snyder (R-Sr., Lewistown, Pa.), Derek Valenti (R-Sr., Newton, N.J.), Jedd Moore (R-Sr., Mount Vernon, Ohio), Nick Sulzer (R-So., Cleveland, Ohio) and Jon Fausey (R-Jr., Dalmatia, Pa.) all won their first-round bouts. All five will wrestle seeded opponents this evening.
UVA's four first-round losses each were heartbreakers, with each coming by three points or fewer. No 11 seed George DiCamillo (Fr., Highland Heights, Ohio) nearly rallied from a 5-0 deficit, but he fell short with the riding time providing the final margin in an 8-7 loss to Boston University's Dan Harlowe. Joe Spisak (R-So., Boiling Springs, Pa.) took top-seeded and undefeated Hunter Stieber of Ohio State down to the wire before falling, 8-5.
Stephen Doty (R-Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) fell 6-4 to Iowa State's Boaz Beard in the pigtail match at 184. Mike Salopek (R-Sr., North Huntingdon, Pa.) lost 5-3 in sudden-victory time to Drexel's Brandon Palik at 197.
