2017-18 Virginia Wrestling Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling program announced its 2017-18 schedule on Thursday (Sept. 21). The schedule includes five dual meets against teams that finished last season ranked in the top 25 of the national rankings.

Virginia will host four dual meets and travel to compete in seven predetermined dual meets, the Virginia Duals, and four open tournaments.

"We feel great about this year’s schedule,” said Virginia head coach Steve Garland. “As always, we are doing all we can to ensure great competition for our guys each year. This year we will be taking on a number of tough teams in duals, including two very highly-ranked squads in Rutgers and Missouri. On top of that we are heading back to the Cliff Keen Invitational, which is consistently one of the top tournaments in the nation. With the Southern Scuffle tournament, the Virginia duals and our ACC dual grind, our guys will really be tested this year."

The Cavaliers begin the season at the Clarion Open (Nov. 5) before continuing to wrestle on the road at the Journeymen Duals (Nov. 11) against Rutgers and Kent State. Virginia will then return home to host Gardner-Webb (Nov. 17) and Missouri (Nov. 26) to close out the month of November.

Virginia will wrestle twice in December, heading west to compete at the Cliff Keen Invitational (Dec. 1-2) before a dual meet at Bloomsburg (Dec. 17).

The Cavaliers open the new year at the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1-2) before competing at the Virginia Duals (Jan. 12-13). Matchups have not been set for the Virginia Duals, but teams currently confirmed to participate include Arizona State, Bucknell, Campbell, Fresno State, Iowa State, Kent State, Lock Haven, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Virginia begins ACC competition at home against North Carolina (Jan. 19). The Cavaliers will then travel to face NC State (Jan. 26) and wrestle in the final non-conference dual meet of the season at Old Dominion (Jan. 28).

February will see the Cavaliers continue ACC competition with dual meets at Duke (Feb. 3), a home meet with Virginia Tech (Feb. 11) and a final road contest at Pittsburgh (Feb. 16). Virginia is also scheduled to send wrestlers to compete at the U.S. Western National Open (Feb. 24) as a final tune up before the postseason.

The ACC Championships (March 3) will be hosted by North Carolina, while the NCAA Championships (March 16-18) will be held in Cleveland, Ohio.
