Head Coach Joanne Boyle
On the game:
Just disappointed, but a lot of credit to Duke. They handled business in the second half and we didn't. They're a great team, but I think were capable of playing with teams like that as well.
On Duke's run:
We talked about it, and we weathered the storm for the first five minutes but it was the five after that were it got away from us. We left too many points out there. We had 16 missed layups. When you're going to leave that many points out there a great team like that is going to capitalize
On Elizabeth Williams:
We didn't want to back away from her at all. If you get someone like that in foul trouble then their entire game plan changes. So we didn't want to be weary of her in anyway. But early in the game it wasn't about her blocking shots, it was about us missing layups
On UVa's rebounding:
Not surprised, but pleased. Weve been doing, other than the Georgia Tech game, that was a focus of ours and we had to do that because they [Georgia tech] were plus ten. I think we did a good job defensively and a good job on the boards, but we struggled offensively and struggled to score.
UVa forward Telia McCall
On Virginia's missed layups
We practice, and We have scout guys who are just as tall as Elizabeth (Williams) so we're just going to keep going up and try to make a layup. Unfortunately they weren't rolling in for us. We need to keep going strong to the rim and hope they go in.
UVa guard Ataira Franklin
On Duke's 3-point shot that put them ahead for good:
It was a great shot. She (Chelsea Gray) is a great player. It was just a tough situation. I felt like we played tough until that point, but we had our lapses, and I feel like that play necessarily lost us the game, but it gave them momentum. Once they got momentum it was hard for us to come back.
On upcoming game:
We have a quick turnaround. At this point in the season you have to have a short memory. We'll watch a little film and see what we can improve on, but there's the game Sunday. So we'll prepare a little bit tomorrow and we just need to go play. It's an away game, tough environment, and in-state rivalry so we just need to really come with our guns loaded and throw the first punch and come out and play all forty minutes like we came out today
