Cavaliers Defeat Cal


BERKELEY, Calif. - Lesley Brown had 21 points and seven rebounds and Mimi McKinney added 15 and eight to lead 10th-ranked Virginia to an 81-66 victory over California.

Virginia (8-1) had 25 steals among the 35 turnovers it forced, leading to 25 points. The Cavaliers shot 56 percent (18-of-32) from the floor in a 52-point second half.

Overall, Virginia converted 24-of-39 free throws and 1-of-9 three-pointers.

Amber Lacey scored 10 points and three other players added nine each for the Golden Bears, who shot 40 percent (21-of-52) and outrebounded the Cavaliers, 45-40.
