Virginia closes out the 2013-14 regular season on Sunday at Florida State

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia women's basketball team (13-15, 6-9 ACC) plays its final regular-season game of the 2013-14 campaign at Florida State (18-10, 6-9 ACC) on Sunday, March 2 with an early 12:30 p.m. tip time at the Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
The game will be televised on ESPNU as well as streaming live online on ESPN3 with Roy Philpott and Steffi Sorenson calling the action. The game will also be on the radio on WINA- 1070 AM with John Freeman calling the action.
The Cavaliers and the Seminoles come into the game tied for ninth place in the ACC, playing for the right of having a first-round bye in next week's conference tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Seeds 10-15 will compete on Wednesday, March 5 at the Greensboro Coliseum. Seeds 5-9 will see their first action on Thursday (March 6) with seeds 1-4 earning a double-bye and seeing their first action in Friday's (March 7) quarterfinals.
Virginia leads the all-time series 33-13 and has won each of the last three meetings, including upsetting both the then-ranked No. 17 Seminoles 85-68 in Charlottesville earlier this season and a then-ranked No. 24 FSU squad 72-60 in the 2012-13 regular-season finale. Virginia's last loss in the series was a 78-74 game on Feb. 7, 2011 in Charlottesville.
Florida State started the season with a 14-1 record, but has gone 4-9 since. The Seminoles have lost three of their last four games, including falling 86-78 on Thursday night (Feb. 27) at home against Georgia Tech.
Virginia has lost three consecutive games, including a pair of tough losses to No. 11 North Carolina and No. 14 NC State, and has dropped five of its last six contests.
On Thursday night (Feb. 27) against Miami, UVa Virginia led by 11 points with 7:48 remaining in the first half and held a 36-32 advantage at halftime, but the hot-shooting Hurricanes outscored Virginia 51-27 in the second half to move past UVa in the ACC standings. Miami shot 55.7 percent in the game including going 21-of-34 in the second half (61.8 percent) while Virginia went 18-of-64 (28.1 percent) for the game.
Senior guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) led the Cavaliers with a 17-point performance against the Hurricanes, her 11th-straight game scoring in double figures. Redshirt senior guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) pulled in nine boards, her second-highest rebounding total of the season. Senior guard Kelsey Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) scored eight points in the first half, helping UVa build its early lead.
The official seedings for the ACC Tournament will be announced on Sunday evening. Ticket packages for the tournament can be purchased through the Virginia Athletic Ticket Office.
