COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Virginia's Monica Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) has been invited to compete at the USA Basketball Junior National Team Trials, USA Basketball announced on Monday.

The trials, which will be held May 17-20 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, will determine the 12-member roster for the 2007 USA Basketball U-19 World Championship Team, coached by DePaul's Doug Bruno.

Sixteen countries will compete in the 2007 U-19 World Championship on July 26-August 5 in Bratislava, Slovakia. In pool play, the USA will play China, Ivory Coast, and Lithuania.

One of 37 hopefuls invited to compete at the trials, Wright was unanimously selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and as the VaSID Rookie of the Year. The rising sophomore was also named a Young All-American. The most decorated freshman in Virginia school history, she earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors eight times, the most of any Cavalier in school history.

A starter in every game, Wright finished the 2006-07 season second in team scoring with 15.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and a team-best 79 steals. Wright set the single-season record for field goal attempts by a freshman with 469.

This is Wright's third invitation with USA Basketball. She also competed last year at the U-18 National Team Trials and donned a USA jersey at the 2005 Youth Development Festival.

"This is another honor for Monica." Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan said. "She has been very deserving of all the attention she has attracted in the off-season. Monica would be an excellent representative for our country as she embodies all the qualities of a USA Basketball Player."

Wright will immediately re-join the Cavaliers following the trials. The Virginia women's basketball team will then embark upon a 10-day international exhibition tour, competing in Senegal and the Canary Islands.
