WNBA's Sting Selects Virginia's McKinney from Free-Agent Pool

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The 16-player training-camp roster was completed by the WNBA's Charlotte Sting with the addition of Virginia's Mimi McKinney. Workouts begin May 12th at the Charlotte Hornets Training Center. Media Day is scheduled for Monday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m.

The Sting completed their roster on May 7 when they selected McKinney, Stephanie Cross of Maryland, Kelly Boucher of the University of British Columbia and Charmin Smith of Stanford. WNBA rosters must be trimmed down from 16 to 11 players by June 10.

McKinney is a 1998 second -team All-ACC selection who started 25 of 28 games for the Cavaliers last season, averaging 14.8 points and 5.9 rebounds. The 5-9 guard also hit 53-168 three-pointers on the year and registered the top scoring output in the nation on Jan. 15 when she scored 48 points vs. North Carolina on Jan. 15.

McKinney joins former UVa point guard, Tora Suber, on the Sting roster. Suber was selected by Charlotte in the first round of the WNBA draft last year.
