Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.), a sophomore on the women's basketball team, recently checked in with VirginiaSports.com to talk about the first day of classes on Grounds.

This morning, after being awoken by my alarm clock, my first thought immediately was, "Today's my last first day of Spanish class!" Fulfilling the foreign language requirement is no easy win. It's even tougher when a whole semester's worth of Spanish vocabulary and grammar is crammed into four weeks. However, that's another story for perhaps another time. The bottom line is that nothing will be greater than hearing the words, "You are done with Spanish." Nothing could possibly ruin my day.

There was just one thing. In all this excitement, I forgot that I didn't know how to get to my next class. So as the clock strikes 10:50 and Spanish class lets out, the race is on for me to be on time for my 11 o'clock class. Frantically pacing and texting teammates to find out where this mystery building is located, I realized I've already wasted two minutes. And to make matters worse, the only information I had about this class was that it wasn't directly on Grounds. Finally getting some idea of where to go, I sprinted into class at 10:59 and 59 seconds.

In hopes that the most interesting part of my day had already occurred, I was mistaken to say the least when the earthquake hit! It was amazing. I had never experienced anything like it. This is definitely the most eventful first day of class I've ever had!
