Virginia Ranked in Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia women's basketball team is ranked No. 20 in the Street and Smith's Basketball preseason poll, the magazine announced on Friday.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is well-represented in the poll. Defending national champion Maryland is ranked first, followed by North Carolina at No. 2. Duke is No. 7. All three played in the 2006 NCAA Final Four.

Additionally, UVa junior point guard Sharneé Zoll (Marlboro, N.J.) is listed as an Honorable Mention All-American. The two-time team captain was named to the All-ACC Third Team. A first-team All-State honoree and the team's Best Defensive Player, she started every game. Zoll finished second in scoring with 11.2 points per game and paced the `Hoos with a sophomore record 201 assists.

The Cavaliers host Team Concept in exhibition action on Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Virginia Cavaliers open the regular season at Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 10. Then UVa hosts longtime intra-state rival Old Dominion in its first-ever home game at the JPJA on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
