SYDNEY, Australia - The United States scored a stunning tie with defending World and Olympic Champion Australia 1-1 today at the Olympic Test Event.

After the Hockeyroos scored the game's opening goal in the 21st minute, the USA's Cindy Werley netted the equalizer with a goal in the 48th minute as she slipped a shot past the Australian goalie.

The United States, who won the silver medal last month in the 1999 Pan Am Games, is looking to qualify for the Olympics at the Qualifying Tournament next March.

Former Cavalier All-American Michelle Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex), who is currently an assistant coach with the Cavaliers, is a member of the USA team. She hit the game-winner against Spain in the first game of the tournament.

Next up for the Americans is China. The USA (1-0-1) leads the tournament with four points and a +1 goal differential. Australia also has a +1 goal differential and faces Spain, who lost to the USA 3-2 earlier in the weeekend.
