Despite holding the Terrapins scoreless for a 44-minute stretch during the course of the game, the #20 Cavaliers fell to #2 Maryland 4-1 today (Oct 1) in College Park. Katherine Blair notched four saves and Lindsay O'Bannon tipped in an Allison Flynn pass midway through the first period to pull the Cavaliers within one at 2-1. The Cavalier defense held Maryland off the boards for all of regulation in the second period before the Terps scored on a short corner with no time left on the clock.

The Virginia defense held the Terps off the boards for the opening 15 minutes before Maryland scored two goals in a two-minute span to take a 2-0 lead at 17:49.

The Cavaliers answered as they swung the ball around the back to Amy Marotta, who sent the ball upfield to Katie Phillips, who attacked the circle and drew a short corner. On the play, Allison Flynn's pass was tipped into the cage by O'Bannon at 19:25, pulling Virginia to within one.

Virginia returns to action on Wednesday (Oct 5) as the Cavaliers host Radford. Game time against the Highlanders is 7:00 pm.
