Box Score

Virginia first-year Allie Flynn (Readington Township, N.J./Hunterdon Central) put a Katie Phillips (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley) reverse stick pass into the cage to tie the game in the 14th minute, but Dartmouth College scored once more in the second frame to defeat the Cavaliers 2-1 today in Ithaca. Virginia drew more corners than Dartmouth (12-11) but the Big Green outshot the Cavaliers 13-6.

The Cavaliers drew the first two short corners of the game but it was Dartmouth who capitalized first, scoring on a play to the left as Lauren Welsh put home a pass from Carolyn Steele in the ninth minute, giving the Big Green the early lead.

Virginia answered right away as Rosie Walker (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) sent a free hit at the top of the circle to Kelli Hill (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan). Hill took it into the circle and after Dartmouth got a piece of it, Phillips corralled the loose ball and sent it down to Flynn, who popped the ball into the cage for the tying goal. The teams went into halftime tied 1-1.

Dartmouth scored three minutes into the second half to take the lead they would not relinquish. Virginia keeper Emily White (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) made nine saves. Flynn's goal, her fifth of the season, moves her into a tie for the most goals by a Cavalier this season.
