The Virginia Cavaliers fell to the #2 ranked Blue Devils 4-0 today in a game at which the Class of 2006 was honored in a ceremony before the contest. Dana Anderson, Allison Flynn, Sarah Miller, Katie Phillips and Lindsey Selfridge were all recognized prior to the game for their contributions to the program. Classmate Katherine Blair, who entered Virginia in the fall of 2002 with these five., started in the cage and made eight saves. The Cavaliers held Duke (14-3) to 1-0 at the break, but three different Blue Devils scored in the second half to take the victory.

The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Nicole Dudek took a pass from Katie Grant, eluded the defense, and scored. The Cavalier defense held strong the remainder of the half and allowed only one short corner and three shots in the stanza as Duke led 1-0 at the break.

Duke's Hilary Linton made it 2-0 a minute into the second half as she swept a loose ball to the boards at 36:03. Six minutes later Ashley Putolrek tipped in a shot by Cara-Lynn Lopresti after Lopresti attacked down the left side of the pitch and entered the circle along the endline. With time winding down in the game, Rachel Link brought the ball up the left side of the pitch and laid a ball up to Grant, who scored at 62:30 for the final goal of the game.

The Cavaliers and the Blue Devils will both compete on Thursday (Nov. 3) at the ACC Field Hockey Championships in College Park, Md. All conference games have been completed for all schools in the regular season.
