Cavalier Field Hockey Hires Melisa Meccage As New Assistant Coach

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia head field hockey coach Jessica Wilk has announced the hiring of Melisa Meccage as a new assistant coach. Meccage comes to Virginia from St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio, Texas, where she was the head instructional coach and was responsible for the development and instruction of the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school teams.

The Big 10 Athlete of the Year in 1997 her senior year at the University of Iowa, Meccage was a two-time First Team Regional All-American and a two-time All-Big 10 Conference selection. She was the team captain of both the Iowa Hawkeye squad as well as the United States Under-21 team in 1997.

Meccage won a bronze medal with the USA Under-21 team at the Junior Pan Am games in 1997. In 1998 she played for the Club Universitario de Argentina de Tucman. She was also an assistant coach with the club in 1998. Meccage is also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
