Montreal, Can. - Virginia's Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) helped the United States Under-19 field hockey squad advance to the finals of the Montreal Cup, but there the Stars and Stripes fell to Canada's Ndestuk 6-3. It was the United States' first loss in the tournament. In pool play, the U-19s had defeated the Canadian squad 2-1.

Worthington was a member of the top-ranked goalie tandem at the University of Virginia, which led the nation in scoring defense in 1997, allowing less than a goal per game. Worthington led the nation with a goals-against average of .919. Her fellow goalie at Virginia, Ellen Wiese (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) ranked in the top ten in the nation with a save percentage of .833.

The assistant coach for the Under-19 team is John Kovach, an assistant at the University of Virginia.
