Cavaliers Fall to Boston University 3-0


Charlottesville The Virginia field hockey team outcornered the Boston University Terriers 8-4, but the scoreboard read 3-0 in favor of the visitors. The No. 19/17 Terriers (8-2) used two goals by Hayley Hamada in the second half to break open a 1-0 game. No. 11/15 Virginia (5-4) had four saves by Devon Burnley in the second half.

The Terriers got on the scoreboard with their first shot of the game at 14:14 as Hayley Hamada fed Sarah Shute. It was BU’s only shot on goal in the first half, and the visitors led 1-0 at halftime despite being outshot (3-1) and outcornered (3-1).

In the second half the Cavaliers led in short corners drawn (5-3) but BU managed to score on one of the set pieces. Hamada scored her first goal off a pass from Hadley Adams at 55:10; she scored her second goal off a rebound of a short corner at 64:21.

The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 as they travel to top-ranked Maryland.
