CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia senior Elly Buckley (Scarborough, Perth, Australia) has been named to the 2013 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-American First Team, becoming the fourth player in Virginia history to earn four All-America honors in her career and the 13th in ACC history.
"Elly is a class act who truly deserves this recognition," said Virginia head coach Michele Madison. "She had a great career at Virginia and the team and staff join me in applauding her contributions to the UVa field hockey program. She joins a very elite group of four-time All-Americans."
Buckley, who earned first-team honors last season from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association after being named to the second team as a freshman and a sophomore, led the ACC in shots (140), shots per game (6.67), points (49), points per game (2.33), goals (20), goals per game (0.95) and defensive saves (6).
In addition to being a four-time All-American, Buckley is also one of just 11 players in conference history to earn All-ACC honors four times. Buckley finished her Virginia career ranked third on the Cavalier career points list with 182 points, fourth in career goals with 73, seventh in career assists with 36 and fourth in career defensive saves with 11.
Buckley's former teammate, Paige Selenski (2008-10, 2012), as well as Meridith Thorpe (1995-98) and Michelle Vizzuso (1995-98) are Virginia's other four-time All-Americans. Buckley joins those three plus one Duke alum, five former Maryland players and three North Carolina Tar Heels as the only players in conference history to earn four All-America honors while competing four years in the conference.
