Gonzales Leads UVA at Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Virginia women’s golf team finished 17th at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 312 during Sunday’s final round for a three-day total of 938. Alabama won the tournament at 859 while Duke was second at 861.

Sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) led UVA with a 38th-place finish. She shot 6-over 77 during the final round and completed the tournament at 11-over 224. It marks the second time this season she has been UVA’s top finisher.

Sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) placed 56th at 229. She posted UVA’s best closing score, shooting 3-over 74.

Freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was 85th at 243, sophomore Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) was 86th at 244 and junior Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) was 89th at 249. Ju Hee Bae (Chantilly, Va.), competing as an individual, shot 77 during the final round to match her low career round and moved up to 87th place.

The Cavaliers are off until March 31 when they begin play at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
