Williamsburg, VA - The Virginia women's golf squad's "Blue Team" placed third at the William and Mary Invitational. The Cavaliers shot 319 during Sunday's second round for a 36-hole total of 634. Toledo ran away with the team title by 26 strokes at 602. William and Mary was second at 628.

Virginia's top finishers were Sally Shonk and Lindsay Robinson. They tied for 14th at 13-over 157. Kristin Simpson was 17th at 158 while Kira Mayo was 34th at 164. Ashley Mayo placed 55th at 170.

Toledo's Kim Kester took medalist honors by three shots at 3-over 147. Her teammate, Tammy Clelland, tied for second at 150.

Shonk led the Cavaliers during Sunday's play with a 6-over 78. It marked the second time in her career she has been UVa's top finisher. Robinson's 14th place showing was the best during her career. Her previous best outing was a 21st-place finish last season.

The event was Simpson and the Mayo's first tournament action this year.

Virginia's Blue Team includes the five players who will not be competing in the Bryant Invitational next week.
