Greensboro, N.C. - The No. 33 Virginia women's golf team made a seven-shot improvement over its opening round score at the ACC Championships to finish the second round in sixth place at 595. The Cavaliers shot 6-over 294 during Sunday's play at Grandover Resort's East Course in Greensboro, N.C. Duke continues to dominate play, standing first at 13-under 563, 17 shots ahead of second-place Florida State.
After 36 holes of play, junior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) leads UVA at 2-over 146. She shot 1-under 71 on Sunday to end the second round in 12th place. One stroke behind her on the leaderboard is freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.). After opening with a 5-over 77, Lillie fired 2-under 70 during the second round.
Junior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) is in 22nd place at 149. She had a second-round score of 76. Sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) dropped back to 39th place with a 77 for a two-day total of 153. Junior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is 53rd at 157. She carded a round of 80 on Sunday.
UVA will be paired with North Carolina and Wake Forest for Monday's final round. Those three teams start play at 8 a.m. from the 1st tee. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com. ACC Network Extra will broadcast the tournament starting at 1 p.m.
The ACC Championships also signify the women's golf matchup between Virginia and Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of University of Virginia Athletics. One point is at stake in the all-sports rivalry series between the two schools. Virginia Tech finished the second round of the ACC Championships in seventh place, three shots behind UVA.
