UVa Golfers Slide to 11th-Place Finish at Cougar Classic

Hanahan, S.C. - The 12th-ranked Virginia women's golf team had its worst round of the three-day Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. and dropped back to finish 11th in the 24-team event. Virginia shot 16-over 304 Tuesday after entering the final round at even par after the first 36 holes. The Cavaliers finished at 880. Florida won the event at 12-under 852, six shots ahead of Duke.

Virginia senior All-American Brittany Altomare led the Cavaliers with a 30th-place finish. She had rounds of 73, 72 and 74 to complete play at 3-over 219. Elizabeth Brightwell and Portland Rosen were one shot behind her in 36th position. Brightwell carded rounds of 73, 70 and 77 while Rosen shot 69, 74 and 77.

Briana Mao placed 54th at 223 (71-76-76) and Melissa Edmonson was 63rd at 225 (74-74-77).

Florida's Camilla Hedberg took medalist honors at 13-under 203.

The Cavaliers are off this weekend before returning to action Sept. 21-23 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., the site of last year's NCAA Championships.
