Altomare Posts Another Top Finish at Fall Preview

Athens, Ga. - The 19th-ranked Virginia women's golf team finished 12th at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview that wrapped up Sunday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Cavaliers shot 12-over 300 during Sunday's final round for a three-day total of 36-over 900. North Carolina finished first at 12-over 876.

Virginia senior All-American Brittany Altomare placed third at the event, shooting 1-under 215. Altomare posted a final round score of even par 72 after opening with rounds of 70 and 73. It marked the 15th time in her career that Altomare has finished in the top-10.

Altomare's performance was the third time in four years she has placed second or third at the Fall Preview. She was second in 2009 and third last year.

Played at the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships, the Fall Preview featured 10 teams ranked in the top 25 of the current Golfstat standings.

Texas A&M's Mary Michael Maggio used a final-round 67 to grab medalist honors at 3-under 213.

Elizabeth Brightwell was UVa's second best finisher, placing 38th at 9-over 225. She shot 77 during the final round. Alex Hershberger, playing for the first time in her career as a scoring player, was 67th at 231. She finished with a 76. Portland Rosen was 73rd at 232 and Briana Mao was 81st at 238. Rosen had a 78 during Sunday's play while Mao produced the team's second best score, carding a 3-over 75.

Virginia wraps up its fall season this weekend when it plays at the Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 12-14.
