WILMINGTON, NC - The Virginia women's golf team finished in eighth place at the Landfall Tradition. A final round 302 (+14) gave the Cavaliers a tournament total of 928 (+64).

Freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) came in sixth overall after a third round score of 73 (+1) gave her a three-day total of 221 (+5). Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) shot a career low 70 (-2) to move her into a tie for 15th place at 226 (+10). It was also the lowest third round score in the entire field. Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) finished in 36th place at 234 (+18) after a 77 (+5) in the final round. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) tied for 52nd at 249 (+33), shooting an 84 (+12) in the final round. Freshman Ashley Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) finished in a tie for 56th at 251 (+35) after shooting an 82 (+10).

New Mexico went wire-to-wire to claim the team title with an 891 (+27). Tulane held onto second place at 895 (+31). Tulsa came in third with a total of 900 (+36). Arkansas' Amanda McCurdy won medallist honors, finishing at 216 (E) for the tournament. Mary Ellen Jacobs of Tulane and Kailin Downs of New Mexico tied for second at 217 (+1).

This concludes the Cavaliers' fall schedule. They will be back in action for their spring campaign at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, NC on Feb. 27-29, 2004.
