LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - University of Virginia freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) won the 2003 Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship at the Wigwam Resort Gold Course on Dec. 30.

Wigger shot a 216 (E, 74-70-72) during the 54-hole tournament for medalist honors.

The national junior tournament featured 112 female players from age 13 to 23 from the continental United States, Hawaii, and Canada.

Wigger, who started all five tournaments for the Virginia women's golf team during its inaugural season last fall, leads the Cavaliers with a 75.77 stroke average.

The Cavaliers open the spring season on Feb. 27 at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C.
