Cavalier Golfers Open in Eighth Place at Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

New Orleans, LA - The eighth-ranked Virginia women's golf team is tied for eighth place after the opening 18 holes of play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate taking place in New Orleans. The Cavaliers posted a score of 10-over 298. Tulane leads the 17-team field at even par 288.

This is Virginia's first tournament of the spring season. Every team in the field is ranked in the current Golfstat top-50 poll including seven of the top 10 teams in the nation.

Senior Joy Kim led Virginia with a 1-over 73 to finish the opening round in 15th place. Freshman Portland Rosen shot 74 and stands 24th. Calle Nielson is in 33rd position after shooting 75, Brittany Altomare is 47th with a 76 and Nicole Agnello is 73rd after posting 80.

Duke's Laetitia Beck leads the field at 6-under 66.

The second round of the event takes place Monday and the final round is scheduled for Tuesday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
