Cavalier Women's Golfers Open in 10th Place at Georgia

Athens, GA - The Virginia women's golf team is tied with top-ranked Duke for 10th place after Friday’s opening round at Georgia’s 36th Annual Liz Murphey Classic. The Cavaliers shot 314 on the par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course. LSU jumped out to the early lead, shooting 297 to stand five shots ahead of Alabama, Purdue and the host Bulldogs.

Lene Krog led Virginia with a 4-over 76 to stand 23rd overall. Calle Nielson is 41st at 78, Kristen Simpson and Jennie Arseneault are tied for 51st at 80 and Joy Kim shot 84 to stand 86th.

LSU’s Megan McChrystal carded a 3-under 69 to take a two-shot lead in medalist play.
