Charlottesvile, VA -- Virginia senior women's golfer Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) has been selected Golf World's Collegiate Player of the Week for the publication's March 30 issue. The UVa All-American bogeyed her last hole to force a playoff with Purdue's Maria Hernandez at Georgia's Liz Murphey Collegiate, but she made a six-foot birdie on the first sudden-death hole for her first college win after five runner-up finishes. Both players completed regulation at 2-over 215.

Wigger has been a runner-up five times during her career, most recently at the Fall Preview in September. Wigger also finished second at the 2006 ACC Championships, the 2005 NCAA East Regional and the 2005 NCAA Championships.

She currently leads Virginia with a 73.67 stroke average and her showing at the Murphey Classic marked the 21st top-10 finish in her career.

In January Wigger won the 2007 Harder Hall Women's Invitational, one of the top amateur events for women's golfers.

"This is a great honor by Leah and we appreciate Golf World recognizing her accomplishment," said UVa coach Jan Mann. "She has won some amateur tournaments during her career, but I know this victory meant an awful lot to her. Leah had a goal to win a college tournament and she really did not have that many more opportunities. She has been playing really well for us and this certainly gives her some great momentum as we head into the most important part of our season."
