Greensboro, NC - The sixth-ranked Virginia women's golf team finished third at the 23rd annual ACC Championships in Greensboro at Sedgefield Country Club. Playing in windy conditions, the Cavaliers shot 20-over 304 for the second consecutive day to finish the 54-hole tournament at 51-over 903. North Carolina led wire-to-wire to claim its first title since 1992. The 23rd-ranked Tar Heels finished at 23-over 875, including a score of 300 during Sunday's final round.

Fifth-ranked Duke edged out the Cavaliers for second place by also shooting 300 over the final 18 holes to take runner up spot at 899. Wake Forest, ranked No. 16, posted the final round's best team score, shooting 298, to move into fourth place, one shot behind Virginia. Florida State, ranked No. 29, was fifth at 911.

Virginia saw two sophomores post top-10 finishes at the championship. Brittany Altomare, who entered the event ranked 14th nationally in the Golfweek standings, shot 1-over 72 Sunday and tied for seventh place at 9-over 222. It marked the sixth time this year she has led UVa in scoring and was the eighth top-10 finish of her two-year career.

Fellow sophomore Nicole Agnello also placed in the top 10. She carded a 76 during the final round and was 10th overall at 11-over 224. Freshman Portland Rosen shot 79 Sunday and ended her ACC debut in 15th place at 229.

Eleana Collins shot 77 to claim 21st place at 232. It was also her first ACC Championship event. Senior Calle Nielson, who was a runner-up at the ACCs last year along with Altomare, dropped back to 26th overall at 233. She shot 80 during the final round.

Wake Forest's Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, shot under par for the third straight day to run away with the individual title at 5-under 208. North Carolina's Allie White was second at 2-over 215. It was the third consecutive year a Wake Forest golfer claimed the individual crown.

Virginia will now await a bid to one of three NCAA regional championships scheduled for May 5-7. The Cavaliers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in the program's eight-year history. This year's tournament will take place at Texas A&M May 17-20.
