Charlottesville, VA - Virginia women's golfers Brittany Altomare and Calle Nielson have been named to Golfweek's All-America teams. Altomare, a freshman in 2010, was named a third-team All-American while Nielson, a junior last season, received honorable mention accolades.
Altomare, a native of Shrewsbury, Mass., led Virginia at the NCAA Championships with a 15th-place finish, the fourth best of any freshman in the field. The Cavaliers placed 13th as a team. Altomare's showing was the third best in school history and the best by a Cavalier freshman.
Altomare finished third in the ACC in stroke average this year, leading Virginia at 73.53 per round. She topped the team in scoring at seven tournaments and was the runner-up at the ACC Championships along with Nielson.
Nielson, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., tied for medalist honors at the West Regional, helping UVa to a fifth-place finish and the team's third straight trip to the NCAA Championships.
Nielson finished fourth in the ACC in scoring average at 73.97. She led UVa in scoring five times this spring. In addition to her win at the West Regional, she also placed first in the Tri-Match at Ironwood this spring.
Both players were named honorable mention All-Americans by the National Golf Coaches Association.
