Wigger Picks Up More All-America Honors
Cavalier Sets UVa Scoring Mark
Complete Golfweek All-America List
Charlottesville, VA - Virginia junior golfer Leah Wigger (Louisville, KY) has been named a second-team All-American by Golfweek. It is the second organization to recognize her as an All-American. At the NCAA Championships Wigger was announced as a second team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association. She is the first player in the three-year history of the Virginia program to earn All-America honors.
Wigger set the Virginia scoring record this season by posting a scoring average of 73.26. That bettered the mark of 74.12 she set during her sophomore season. She also established a UVa benchmark with 10 top-10 finishes (in 11 tournaments) during the season. She now has 17 in her career.
She was 19th in Golfweek's final rankings and 12th in the Golfstat Cup standings.
Wigger finished the season in strong fashion by placing ninth at the NCAA Championships. It was her second consecutive top-10 performance at the NCAAs. She was the runner up in 2005. She was one of four players to turn in back-to-back top-10 outings at the NCAA Championships. Also accomplishing that feat were Dewi Schreefel of USC (1st in 2006, 10th in 2005), Amie Cochran of UCLA (6th and 3rd) and Paige Mackenzie from Washington (8th and 10th).
Wigger was second at the ACC Championships, sixth at the NCAA East Regional and named to the All-ACC squad for the third straight season.
The list of her accomplishments was not limited to the golf course. She was named a second team selection to the District III ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American squad. Wigger has a 3.56 grade point average as a psychology major at Virginia.
