Neuhauser Reaches Round of 16 at U.S. Pub Links

Devens, MA Virginia senior golfer Whitney Neuhauser (Barboursville, Va.) advanced to the round of 16 at the 33rd Annual U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship before being eliminated in one of the nation’s top amateur tournaments. This year’s U.S. Pub Links is taking place at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass.

Neuhauser opened the tournament by finishing third in the field of 152 players in stroke play, shooting 4-under 140 over 36 holes. Wednesday she defeated Paula Reto of South Africa 5&4 in the opening round of match play.

Thursday morning Neuhauser, an All-American and All-ACC pick last year at UVa, defeated Angela Vilela of Pacoima, Calif. in 19 holes to move into the tournament’s round of 16. She was eliminated Thursday afternoon 1-up by UCLA senior Sydnee Michaels, the 2009 NCAA East Regional medalist.

The tournament concludes Saturday.
