Simpson Finishes 28th at Pro Event in Richmond

Richmond, VA Virginia senior golfer Kristen Simpson placed 28th in the 144-player field at the Greater Richmond Duramed FUTURES Classic Sunday. She had rounds of 73, 71 and 74 to finish as the top amateur in the field. Former Cavalier Leah Wigger was 23rd overall at 1-over 217, one shot ahead of Simpson.

The tournament, that featured a $100,000 purse, was contested at the Richmond Country Club. Tour rookie Haeji Kang won the event at 11-under 205.

Wigger, who was a two-time All-American and four-time ACC performer at UVa from 2004-2007, is currently fifth on the Duramed FUTURES Tour money list with earnings of $35,880.

Now in its 28th season, the Duramed FUTURES Tour has established itself as “the Road to the LPGA and Beyond,” and since 1999, it has been designated as the official developmental tour of the LPGA. More than 300 Duramed FUTURES Tour alumnae are LPGA members, and through 2007, alums have won a total of 330 LPGA victories and 35 major championships. Last year, tour alums won 15 of 32 LPGA tournaments and two of the four major championships.
