UVa Women's Golf Team Jumps to No. 5 in Standings

Charlottesville, VA The Virginia women’s golf team moved up two spots to fifth place in the latest Golfweek standings. It marks the highest ranking in the program’s history. The Cavaliers were ranked No. 6 in the Oct. 11, 2006 Golfweek poll. Junior Whitney Neuhauser (Barboursville, Va.) jumped all the way to No. 8 in the latest individual rankings.

Arizona State tops the current poll followed by USC, UCLA and Oklahoma State. Wake Forest, at No. 9, and Duke, at No. 10, are the other ACC schools ranked in Golfweek’s top 10.

The Cavaliers are 18-9 this year against teams in the top 25 and 39-9 in tournaments featuring teams in the top 50. Virginia has finished in the top four in each of its four fall tournaments.

Neuhauser has two runner-up finishes this fall. She was second at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. and at The Derby at Auburn. She currently leads the team with a 72.08 stroke average.

Neuhauser is joined in the top 25 by Cavalier senior Jennie Arseneault, who is 21st in the standings. She is second on the team with a stroke average of 73.08.
