Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia women's golf coach Kim Lewellen announced today Evelyn Dole and Lauren Diaz-Yi will join the Cavalier golf team next fall. Dole is a native or Raleigh, N.C. while Diaz-Yi hails from Thousand Oak, Calif. Diaz-Yi is ranked No. 82 in the American Junior Golf/Polo rankings and Dole is ranked No. 125.
"Lauren Diaz-Yi and Evelyn Dole are an outstanding pair of student-athletes for our 2013 class," Lewellen said. "They both share the characteristics - scholastic and athletic achievement - that we aspire for our student-athletes at Virginia. Both in the classroom and on the golf course they have achieved a very high level of success. I look forward to having them join our golf family and continue the tradition of excellence our women's golf teams have built over the past decade."
Diaz-Yi is ranked the No. 21 player for the Class of 2013 by Junior Golf Scoreboard. This year she reached the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships. She also qualified for the Pub Links in 2008 and won the 2009 AJGA Junior All-Star event for golfers ages 12 to 15.
In March she was one of the top 18 juniors in Southern California to play in the fresh&easy Kraft Foods Legacy Junior Challenge at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage for the opportunity to qualify for the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She placed third at the event.
Diaz-Yi placed 21st at the Junior PGA Championship, was 14th at the AJGA Junior Challenge and was fifth at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship. She was 21st at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and 17th at the Polo Golf Junior Classic. In April she tied for fifth at the Under Armour/Gary Woodland Championship.
Dole is ranked No. 44 in the AJGA Polo Rankings for girls in the class of 2013. She won an American Junior Golf Association tournament in June 2012 and qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior and the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in 2012.
In 2012, she won the Junior Trophy for the Women's Southern Golf Association Amateur and the Tar Heel Youth Golf Association Jimmy Anderson Invitational. She qualified for and played in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship in Torrey Pines, Calif., and played for the North Carolina/South Carolina match play team against the team from Virginia and Maryland.
Dole was the North Carolina State Player of the Year as a junior while competing for Ravenscroft School. She won NCISAA Conference Player of the Year honors during her sophomore and junior years of high school. She made the North Carolina All-State Team in both of those seasons.
Dole was named to the American Junior Golf Association 2012 HP Scholastic Honor Roll.
