Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia women's head golf coach Kim Lewellen announced today a six-person signing class that will enroll next fall. The six players who have signed national letters of intent are: Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.), JuHee Bae (Chantilly, Va.), Emilee Flaugher (Edwardsville, Ill.), Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.), Lyndsey Hunnell (Troutville, Va.) and Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio).
"This is the largest recruiting class I have brought in and it is a group that has had tremendous success on the state, national and international scene," Lewellen said. "I believe Lyberty Anderson, JuHee Bae and Lyndsey Hunnell are three of the best junior golfers in the state of Virginia and we always want to attract the top players from our area. Emilee Flaugher, Maho Haywkawa and Sarah Kolodzik have impressive resumes and have just touched on their full potential. I am thrilled to have these six student-athletes join our golf family."
Anderson was the Virginia State Golf Association's co-women's golfer of the year for 2013. She won the Richmond Women's Golf Association Championship for the fourth time in five years and was the 2013 VSGA Virginias Women's Stroke Play champion. Anderson is a four-time qualifier for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship. Playing for Manchester High School, she tied for first at the 2013 5A boy's state championship but lost medalist honors in a playoff. She won the 2012 VHSL boy's 3A state title, becoming only the second female competitor to win the event since VHSL established three classifications in 1970. That year she was named the Richmond Times Dispatch's player of the year. In 2010, she won the VHSL Girl's Open state title, setting a tournament record. She was the VSGA's Junior Player of the Year in 2011.
Bae won the 2013 VHSL State Open Championship for girls while competing for Chantilly High School and was runner-up at the event in 2010. Bae was born in South Korea and lived there until she was eight when her family moved to Canada before eventually relocating to Virginia. Bae has competed in four USGA events. She played in the USGA Girls' Championship in 2011 and 2012, finishing 17th in her last appearance. In 2013, she advanced to the USGA's Public Links and Women's Amateur championships. Her best finish on the American Junior Golf Association's circuit was a second-place showing at the 2012 Cleveland Open.
Hunnell was selected as the Roanoke Valley Women's Player of the year in 2012, was selected the Roanoke Valley girls player of the year the last four years and won the Roanoke Valley Women's City County Tournament in 2012. Hunnell was selected to the VSGA Poindexter Cup Team and Mid Atlantic Challenge Teams the past two years. She finished fourth in the VSGA Women's stroke play tournament in 2013 and was runner up in the Roanoke Valley Women's Hall of Fame Tournament in 2011 and 2012 with a third place in 2013. She was the Blue Ridge District Player of the Year in 2013 while competing for Lord Botetourt High School. Hunnell was the runner-up at the VHSL State Open in 2012 and finished sixth in 2013.
Flaugher has won seven Gateway Section Junior PGA Events and been the runner-up five times during her junior career. She placed first at the AJGA's Coventry Companies Youth Classic in 2013. An all-state performer in Illinois as a junior and senior at Edwardsville High School, she was her sectional medalist in both 2011 and 2013 in addition to claiming All-Area Metro East player of the year in 2013. Placed seventh at the 2012 Illinois 2A state championships and tied for fifth in 2013. Named the Alton Telegraph's Prep Player of the Year for 2011 and 2012. Flaugher did not start playing golf until the summer before her freshman year of high school.
Haywkawa was the medalist at Florida State Golf Association's Girls' Junior Match Play Championship in July. She tied for eighth at FSGA women's amateur stroke play championship and was fourth at FSGA Girls' Junior Championship. In 2013, Haywkawa was the runner up at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's (HJGT) Falcon's Fire and Orlando Junior Challenge tournaments. She placed second at Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) at Harmony Golf Preserve and had top-five finishes at FCWT MetroWest and Orage County National and HJGT at Timacuan. She attended Mike Bender Golf Academy and competed at the same high school as UVa men's golf signee Austen Truslow.
Kolodzik is listed No. 81 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings for Class of 2014. She is ranked No. 171 in current AJGA Polo Golf Rankings. She is a four-time first-team All-Ohio honoree. She finished third at the 2013 OHSAA Girls Division II state championship, was the runner up as a junior at championship and fourth as a sophomore. Kolodzik was the runner up at the 2010 Ohio Division II state tournament for Miami Valley School. She played for the boys team in 2010 because there were not enough female golfers at her school to form a girls team. Last summer she placed fifth at the Golfweek Junior Tour's Clicgear Challenge.
